1 day in machu picchu

I visited Peru on a whim - and booked my flight the day before. Whilst this has been a lifelong bucket list, I had a bit of time to kill before a trip to a US and decided to bite the bullet and go. I spent 2 weeks in total in Peru - and the majority of that in the gateway city of Cusco (the main city before you go onwards to Machu Picchu).

I usually plan my adventures down to pretty much a tee, however having little time to really research this trip, I found myself overwhelmed with options. This resulted me booking a tour via as opposed to organising this myself directly - to which I massively regret. This was however, influenced by a series of unfortunate injuries which meant I was not able to do the Inca Trail as I initially

Important thingst to note:

This area of Peru is high! I strongly recommend taking 2 days to acclimatise before you do anything too crazy. I spent a day or two walking around Cusco before I started any hikes or trips. I usually start to feel wheezy anwhere above 2,000m, and with Cusco at 3,399m I knew I was pretty much in for it. That being said, all of my friends and everyone that I know who has vistied Cusco both Londoners and travellers have also said that they have struggled with the altitude here, so do factor this in, and whilst Cusco is in my oppinion, very high, Machu Picchu is actually lower, at 2,430m so once you have aclimatised in Cusco, you’ll be fine once you go to MP.
